The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute - Bringing Biology to the Genome

The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute is internationally recognized as one of the world's leading genome centres. Our programmes are at the forefront of experimental and computational genome research and the scientists, students and fellows who run these programmes come from all over the globe. Our research programmes emphasise sequencing, computational interpretation of genomic data, biological studies of human and animal pathogens, experimental genetic analysis of gene function in a variety of model organisms, and the investigation of human genetic variation in cancer and other common diseases.

Progress in biology is increasingly dependent on genomics, thus training in the application of these skills to biological systems analysis is not only rewarding, but will offer many opportunities in the future. Our graduate training programme is well established and has substantial support from The Wellcome Trust. We welcome applications from students who wish to join this exciting phase of our research as we move from gene sequence to gene function.
Highly competitive fully funded four-year studentships (tuition fees and stipend) will be available from October 2007 in areas of functional genomics and computational biology. Studentships are open to UK and international students. For a full list of research area interests please see http://www.sanger.ac.uk/Teams/faculty

Application closing date 10th December 2006
