The Beatson Institute is one of the UK's leading cancer research centres. It is core funded by Cancer Research UK and supports cutting edge research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. The Beatson Institute provides an outstanding research environment, underpinned by state-of-the-art core services and advanced technologies. A new research facility (due for completion early 2007) will allow significant expansion of the Institute over the next few years, and we are currently looking to recruit Proteomics Bioinformatician

Starting Salary range £22,100 - £29,400

To join the Proteomics Core Facility to develop methodologies to analyse large Mass Spectrometry datasets for advanced protein and post translational modification analysis. This will involve writing code/scripts for new analysis algorithms, visualisation tools and data mining systems for proteomics data. Maintenance of existing identification software (Mascot), installation of new commercial and public domain software and some server support work will also be required. Candidates should have a PhD in Bioinformatics or related discipline with a strong background in mass spec proteomic data analysis and data mining. Experience of computational tools and databases in Proteomics and expertise in high level languages is required, plus strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well with researchers.
