Rothamsted Research wishes to recruit an experienced Senior Bioinformatics Scientist who will take responsibility for developing and supporting a comparative genetic and genomic data analysis pipeline to be used in a range of crop genomics projects. The person appointed will be responsible for working closely with crop scientists from Rothamsted and other BBSRC research institutes. The appointee will lead a local group of bioinformatics scientists responsible for crop informatics projects and interact closely with other bioinformaticians in other crop science centres. The appointee will interact with other bioinformatics staff and would be located in the Bioinformatics Group.

Applicants should be a postgraduate computer science or biological sciences graduate with significant previous experience maintaining and developing bioinformatics software and web-enabled database applications in a Unix environment. Candidates trained in biology must have at least an MSc in Bioinformatics or related subject. Prior experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL would be an advantage. The ideal candidate would be competent in at least two of the following programming languages: Java, Python, Perl, SQL, PHP. It is expected that successful candidates will be able to demonstrate that they can deliver practical bioinformatics software solutions and have the leadership and communication skills necessary to manage a complex and demanding project involving collaborators across multiple sites and potentially several countries.

The salary will be negotiable depending on the candidate's experience but will be within the range of £29,000 to £41,000 per annum.
