The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute uses large-scale sequencing, informatics and analysis of genetic variation to understand gene function in health and disease and to generate resources of lasting value.

The Sanger website regularly takes in the order of 12 million hits each week and supports over twenty Sanger hosted websites.

As a web developer in the Web team you will be involved in maintaining this world class web service and ensure that the institute's data resources are made available across the world via the numerous Sanger hosted websites. The successful candidate will work as part of the team and be involved in the ongoing development and implementation of high quality, user friendly web interfaces to support the scientific web services.

As a minimum, applicants will be expected to have a Computer Science/Bioinformatics Degree or have significant relevant experience.

Experience of working with the following will be essential: Perl programming language in a Unix environment, HTML, Object oriented software design and MySQL. Experience of working with Apache Webserver software, web configuration and troubleshooting, SSL, a good understanding of web security, web systems administration and web architecture design.

Salary range £20,500 - £26,650 dependent on experience.
