An increasing amount of our research uses molecular genetic, genomic and metabolomic techniques. Because of recent strategic investments in crop science and bioenergy crop research, we are expanding our team of bioinformatics scientists in the Department of Biomathematics and Bioinformatics to take advantage of the increasing volume and complexity of data that is being collected.
We are seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist to join our growing crop informatics team to develop and support software and databases in use by our crop scientists who are increasingly dependent on high quality genetic and genomics information.
Applicants should be a computer science or biological sciences graduate with previous experience of maintaining and developing bioinformatics software and web-enabled database applications in a Unix environment. Candidates trained in biology must have at least an MSc in bioinformatics or related subject. Prior experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL would be an advantage. The ideal candidate would be competent in at least two of the following programming languages: Java, Python, Perl, SQL, PHP.
Starting salary will be negotiable depending on the candidate's experience but would likely be within the range of £24,200 to £27,200 per annum (pay award pending).
