Postdoctoral Scientist / Ph.D. student

Position Postdoctoral Scientist / Ph.D. Student
Organisation Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics (http://www.molgen.mpg.de)
Location Berlin 14195 Germany

The Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics is an international research institute with approx. 500 employees, working in the field of medical genomics. A special focus lies on genome analysis of man and other organisms.

The Otto Warburg Junior Research Group of Dr. Sascha Sauer, “Nutrigenomics and Gene Regulation”, is seeking outstanding candidates for several positions:

Postdoctoral Scientist
(TVöD E 13) • OWL 04-18

Ph.D. student
(TVöD E 13/2) • OWL 04-19

The group is focusing on the analysis of molecular interaction of small molecules with gene regulation networks with the aim to understand and model cellular processes related to the therapy of metabolic diseases.

In our group, particularly small molecule-protein interaction will be studied by combining high throughput screening, biophysical methods, genomic procedures (e.g. ChIP-Sequencing) and cell biology with bioinformatics analysis.

Strong interest, experience and skills in genomics, proteomics, biochemistry, cell biology, model animals, nutrition science and bioinformatics are required.

Applicants for a Postdoctoral position should hold a PhD or MD in a relevant area and should have authored articles published in international peer review journals. Applicants for a Ph.D. position should hold a Master/Diploma in a relevant area.

Applicants are expected to be highly motivated and reliable, and to be willing to develop their conceptual and writing skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as well as willingness to work in a team.

The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply. The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.

We offer exciting positions in a team with great opportunities for scientific as well as professional development. The positions are available immediately for two years with the possibility of prolongation.

Applications including the usual documents should be sent until May 30th 2008 via e-mail to kliem@molgen.mpg.de
