Informatics for Animal Genome Analysis Genome Annotator at the Roslin Institute

Position Informatics for Animal Genome Analysis Genome Annotator
Organisation Roslin Institute
Location Midlothian, Scotland, UK

The Roslin Institute is a leading international centre for research on farm animal genetics and has extensive genomics research programmes.

The pig genome is being sequenced under the auspices of an international pig genome project led by the Swine Genome Sequencing Consortium. The emerging pig genome sequence can be browsed in Pre-Ensembl in the framework of the excellent physical (BAC contig) map of the pig genome. In order to add value to the sequence data there is a pressing need to provide good quality annotation to link existing knowledge of the location of trait genes and other functional information with the framework DNA sequences. In conjunction with the Ensembl group at The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (WTSI) and the European Bioinformatics Institute and the sequencing team at WTSI, Roslin Institute has secured funding to employ a genome annotator to act as the link between the Institutes and with the wider community of pig researchers.

Based at Roslin, and working jointly with biologists and bioinformaticians, the successful candidate will have a proven ability to work methodically with large numbers of sequences and to run and interpret analyses across those sequences. The ideal candidate will have a sound understanding of aspects of pig biology and / or mammalian genetics.

Starting Salary will depend on qualifications and experience.
