Time For Some Focus?

Welcome to 2007 everyone! As it's a new year, i'd quite like to explore some fresh ideas for the site over the coming months - to see if we can make things even more interactive, and maybe even attract some new members to the site.

One of my ideas for the site in the new year is to start a small series of tutorials or 'how to' posts with tips and tricks that visitors to the site might find useful. i.e. have you figured out a foolproof way to install a tricky piece of software, or found a way of efficiently backing up your data, or even an introduction to an area of research - something like that. It doesn't necessarily have to be IT based, but i'm guessing that might well be the focus of our current user base. We could even take requests on the subject (as long as the requests aren't too big)!

BioinformaticsOnline Reloaded

Welcome to the new look BioinformaticsOnline!

Over the last few months we've been experimenting with the combination of a seperate content management system and forum for the website, but unfortunately, this wasn't working very well, only the admin users were actually able to post content to the main CMS! :(

As such, a quick rethink was in order - the ideal solution is a custom-built CMS, specific for our needs - this is currently in development, but is a LOOOOONG way away! So, as a bit of a stop-gap we've moved to an integrated CMS in the form of Drupal. This is a really great CMS that has many useful functions, (in fact, it's almost perfect for our needs!), and works well - it also has integrated forums!
