BACKGROUND:
As part of the vision for developing the Centre, two positions are available for data analysts to develop quantitative approaches to studying gene expression. You will join existing staff in a new Data Analysis facility headed by Professor of Bioinformatics, Geoff Barton (http://www.compbio.dundee.ac.uk/).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
You will provide support for computational analysis of data-intensive "wet" biological research particularly in the areas of proteomics and image analysis.
The Bioinformatics and BioStatistics Service as part of CR-UK's Research Services directorate, provides support to CR-UK funded scientists by analysing data generated from high-throughput technologies such as microarrays and next-generation sequencers. Additionally the group provides support in the areas of biostatistics, and genomics.
A five days theoretical and practical course on microarray data analysis oriented to experimentalists, end-users and PhD students who want to learn about the state-of-the-art of the data analysis methodologies in this fast changing area, and acquire the skills necessary for analysing their own data using one of the most advanced software packages, the GEPAS.

The meeting will take place in Valencia, 13-15th of February 2008, within the facilities of the Centro de Investigaciones Principe Felipe.
This event is co-organized by the two institutions which are currently coordinating the Spanish Network in Bioinformatics: Centro de Investigaciones Príncipe Felipe and Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
This year we will include 8 different thematic areas, ranging from basic developments in bioinformatics towards biomedical applications or systems biology, plus an additional breaking results short contributions session. In addition, a small workshop on training of Bioinformatics in Spain is included in the program. Finally, Tutorials will be provided about standard and innovative tools for systems biology.

Role:
A vacancy has arisen Lonza biologics - Advanced Protein Technologies group (Cambridge-UK) for a Senior Scientist in Structural Bioinformatics / Computational Biochemistry to develop and expand its technology platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and run software tools required for protein aggregation analysis, protein stability, conformational characterisation and protein engineering.
- Design and implement modifications to existing tools to expand their current capabilities and throughput. Co-ordinate research activities with other members of APT as well as external collaborators and contractors to consolidate and enhance current in silico platform technology.
