Genomic Analysis and Data Coordination for European Xenopus tropicalis Research Groups.

We are looking for a bioinformatician to start as soon as possible, to take over the primary role in implementing the bioinformatics components of the European X-OMICS project: "coordinating integrated and functional genomics for understanding normal and pathological development in Xenopus tropicalis."

The work will involve analysing genomic scale data, using comparative genomics, building databases, maintaining a web site, attending and helping to organise European coordination workshops and liaising with other Xenopus groups in Europe.

With the completion of the human and mouse genome sequence, attention is now turning to the functional analysis of genes in mammals. The generation of gene knockouts in the mouse is one approach to perform such functional studies. Recently large scale international projects have been started to knock out mouse genes in a systematic and coordinated manner. The High Throughput Gene Targetting Team is a member of two such projects and performs a central role in each project to realise the goals of knocking out over half the gene in the mouse genome in the next few years.
